CHICAGO – Jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the game's first four minutes and never trailing, the No. 12 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team rolled to an 88-54 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Holy Cross College (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Senior point guard Romisha Taylor (Chicago, Ill./Von Stueben) fueled the early surge scoring four of the team's 10 points during the stretch. SXU's defense racked up 13 steals and held the visiting Saints to just 31 percent shooting (20-for-64) from the field in Saturday's contest. Freshman forward Caitlin McMahon (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) led the way posting career-highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars.
Sophomore forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) also finished Saturday's game with a double-double effort, her 10th of the season, of 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with a game-best six assists. Junior guard Niara Harris (Richton Park, Ill./Robert Morris/Rich South) provided a nice lift off the bench chipping in 14 points and three assists. Junior forward Chrissy Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) was solid as well with eight points, six rebounds and game-best four blocks. SXU was impressive on the boards out-rebounding Holy Cross College, 53-40, and dishing out 21 assists in the game.
Saint Xavier (13-3 overall/8-3 CCAC) continues CCAC play against Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.) on Tuesday, January 8. The game is set for a 5 p.m. tip-off at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
