LaPorte, Ind. - Surpassing the century mark for just the third time this season, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away for an 105-77 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) Thursday night at LaPorte Civic Auditorium in LaPorte, Ind. The Cougars (13-4 overall/9-2 CCAC) scored 60 points in the second half and extended their nine-point halftime lead, 45-36, into as high as a 37-point advantage late in the frame. Junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led all scorers dropping 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the floor.
Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also had a nice outing for SXU with 16 points and game-best six assists, while fellow senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) chipped in 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars were senior forward Dominique Harvey (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) with 17 points and sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) with 11 points. Saint Xavier opened the second half on a 20-9 run fueled primarily by a pair of three-pointers by Green and six points from Karp. With the win, the Cougars have now won 10 of their last 11 games going back to November 28.
Saint Xavier (13-4 overall/9-2 CCAC) returns home on Saturday, January 5, to host conference foe Holy Cross College (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
