CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) has closed out 2012 with a bang claiming his second straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor and his third such award in the past four weeks when it was announced by the league office late Tuesday. Karp came within two points of tying his career-high scoring mark of 39 points when he netted 37 points on 14-of-19 shooting from the field in an 87-58 victory over William Jessup University (Calif.) Saturday. He also authored his sixth double-double of the season that day with his 13 rebounds to go along with three blocks and two assists.
One night earlier, in a near-upset of NAIA I No. 7-ranked Westminster College (Utah), Karp totaled 24 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one assist in the Cougars' 73-70 loss. For the two-game stretch, Karp averaged 30.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting .688 from the field (22-for-32) and .700 from the foul line (14-of-20). Winners of nine of its last 10 games, SXU is 12-4 overall and 8-2 in league play, where the Cougars sit in second place behind No. 1 ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.).
Saint Xavier takes on conference foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) on Thursday, January 3, in LaPorte, Ind. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (central) tip-off.
