CHICAGO – Franchesca Graffeo, a senior shortstop at Shepard High School in Palos Heights, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. The Crestwood native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2013 and will compete for playing time on the field during the 2014 season. Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin believes that Graffeo will likely see playing time at shortstop for the Cougars during her collegiate career.
Graffeo is the daughter of Bill and Laura Graffeo of Crestwood. She is currently coached by Kelsey Clifford at Shepard High School. Graffeo plans to pursue a degree in elementary education next year at Saint Xavier University. As a junior last spring, Graffeo was named the Lady Astros' Most Valuable Player (MVP) and also to The Regional News All-Area Team. She hit .396 on the year and broke a school record with 20 doubles to go along with her 26 runs and 24 RBI.
"Franchesca has the talent and work ethic to have an immediate impact as a freshman," said Minuskin. "We are so excited to have such a quality student-athlete, who will represent SXU so beautifully on and off the field."
