CHICAGO – Christy Bowgren, a senior midfielder at Hononegah High School in Rockton, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. The Rockton, Ill., native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2013 and will compete for playing time on the field during the 2013 season. Bowgren will help fill the key losses in the midfield of seniors Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) and Tammy Contorno (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) next season.
Bowgren is the daughter of Jerry and Dawn Bowgren of Rockton. She is currently coached by Eric Eiss at Hononegah High School. Bowgren is looking to pursue a degree in nursing next year at Saint Xavier University.
"Christy is a strong and smart player, and she will help fill the loss of our two central defenders," said Saint Xavier women's soccer head coach Evan Strehlau. "Christy's style of play compliments what we want to accomplish on the field. Her impact will be felt on day one, not only on the field, but in the locker room as well. She is proud to become a Cougar and we are proud to have her join our program."
