Hammond, Ind. – Junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led all scorers with 28 points and also hauled down a game-best 10 rebounds as the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team pulled away for a convincing 76-61 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) at the PUC Fitness & Recreation Center Saturday in Hammond, Ind.  The Cougars (7-3 overall/7-2 CCAC) pulled away for good in the second half by hitting 55 percent of their shot attempts (12-for-22) after the break.  SXU has now won seven of its eight games with its lone loss during the stretch coming against currently No. 1 ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) by a score of 86-81 on November 20.

Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also had a nice afternoon for the Cougars posting 16 points, seven assists and four steals.  His assist and steal totals were both game-highs.  Senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) was the other double-digit scorer for Saint Xavier Saturday recording 10 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor.  SXU used a tough defensive effort to garner its victory with the visitors racking up 13 steals in the game and holding the host Peregrines to just 38 percent shooting from the field (24-for-64).  The game was close in the opening five minutes before a lay-up by Karp sparked a 9-0 for the Cougars.  PUC fought back and tied things up, 18-18, at the midpoint of the first half, but a pair of three-pointers by Green highlighted a 13-0 SXU run that allowed the visitors to pull away for good.  The Cougars led 45-33 at the half and by as many as 28 points in second-half action.

Saint Xavier (7-3 overall/7-2 CCAC) takes an extended break and does not return to action until Tuesday, December 18.  The Cougars host conference foe Trinity International University (Ill.) that night at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
