CHICAGO –The Saint Xavier University men's basketball team was paced by sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) who led all scorers in the game with 20 points while also posting a game-high nine rebounds en route to an 85-51 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Judson University on Saturday afternoon in Chicago. Two other players hit double digits as both junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and senior forward Dominique Harvey (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) each recorded 17 points in the contest.
SXU forced 28 turnovers in the game and had 21 steals as well. The Cougars were led by senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) in the steal department after picking up a game-high seven steals. Green also posted eight points and seven assists in addition to his steals. Saint Xavier shot 47.3 percent from the field in the game (31-of-67) and limited the Eagles to 35.8 percent shooting from the field (19-of-53). SXU only found themselves down in the game for about four minutes in the first half, but a three pointer by Krieger put the Cougars up 14-13 and they never looked back from that point. The biggest lead of the night for Saint Xavier was 38 points following a pair of free throws by freshman forward Josh Mawhorr (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) with 4:34 to go in the second period which gave SXU an 85-47 lead. Judson University had two players reach double digits in scoring in senior center Anthony Ahlers and senior forward Jason Roy who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Saint Xavier (5-3 overall/5-2 CCAC) hosts CCAC rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Wednesday, December 5, at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
