CHICAGO – Paced by sophomore guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) with a double-double effort of 17 points and 10 rebounds, the No. 7 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team defeated the visiting Judson University Eagles, 57-38, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars never trailed and played stifling defense throughout the contest forcing 30 turnovers behind 16 steals and holding the Eagles to just 30 percent (16-for-54) from the field in the game. Stuut was the only SXU player to score in double figures and led all scorers in the game. Her 10 rebounds led the team.
Saint Xavier had three players each pick up three steals apiece on the afternoon. Stuut, sophomore guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and junior guard Niara Harris (Robert Morris/Rich South) each recorded three steals. Broski and Harris chipped in five points and eight points, respectively. Both teams started off cold with the first basket of the game coming just over four minutes into the first half when Stuut hit a jumper to start the scoring. A jumper by sophomore forward Margaret Wildner (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) gave the Cougars their largest lead of the day at 23 points with 10:49 to go in the second half. The Eagles cut the deficit down to 14 points over the final 10 minutes, but that would be as close as they would get in the contest. Judson University was led by two players who scored in double figures in senior guard Anna Kirchoff and freshman forward Diamond Williams, who scored 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Saint Xavier (6-1 overall/6-1 CCAC) continues conference play on Thursday, December 6, with a home game against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
