Men's Cross Country - Mon, Apr. 3, 2006
Elmhurst, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's track team opened its initial outdoor track season at the Elmhurst Quads Plus Meet on Saturday, April 1, in Elmhurst, Ill. Ronald Lavaire (Shelbyville, Ill./Shelbyville) was the lone athlete taking part and he took 14th place overall in the 5000-meters with a time of 16:26.

"This was Ron's first attempt at this longer track distance," stated SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "It takes some adjusting to, and therefore, I am satisfied with this as an initial time. Ronald is currently training for longer events, so I have to consider this as just a speed work for him."

The Cougars will next compete at a unique event. Lavaire will attempt to qualify for the NAIA marathon competition, which takes place in Fresno, California on May 27. He will compete in the Valpo Mini-Marathon on April 9th, which is a 13.1 event for which the time can be used a qualifier at the full marathon.
