Lexington, Ky. – Saint Xavier University women's volleyball seniors Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) and Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) were both named to the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NAIA All-Mideast Region First Team when the awards were announced Wednesday. Aramburu, a setter, and Knudsen, an outside hitter, were among 14 total players announced for the Mideast Region First Team with fellow Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) members Trinity Christian College (Ill.) and University of St. Francis (Ill.) also boasting two honorees.
Aramburu was named the 2012 CCAC Volleyball Player of the Year earlier this month leading the Cougars with 1,425 assists and finishing second on the team with 42 service aces and 432 digs. Knudsen finished the 2012 campaign second on the team in both total kills (451) and kills per set (3.09) to go along with her 352 digs and 39 service aces. Both players were also first team members on the 2012 All-CCAC Volleyball Team following the championship match of this year's CCAC Volleyball Tournament championship match.
Saint Xavier wrapped up the 2012 season with an impressive 31-13 overall record and claimed second place in the CCAC regular season standings with an 18-1 mark. The Cougars also finished as runners-up in the 2012 CCAC Volleyball Tournament, which earned the team a berth in the 2012 NAIA Volleyball National Championships. It was the program's second national tournament appearance in the last three seasons.
