Vancouver, Wash. – Representing Saint Xavier University as individual runners, senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) and junior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) both turned in solid performances at the 2012 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships Saturday afternoon at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. Shares led the pair finishing in 66th place out of 320 of the NAIA's top runners with a 5K (5,000 meters) time of 19:07. Wallace crossed the finish line in 151st place with a time of 19:54. Shares was also named a 2012 Daktronics-Scholar Athlete prior to Saturday's meet.
"I am so proud of both of these young ladies," said SXU women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel. "They were both leaders for our team all year long and to see them finish up their seasons at the national meet is wonderful. Shares had a phenomenal senior season and truly deserved to end her cross country career here on the national stage."
Shares earned her Daktronics-Scholar Athlete recognition for her 3.875 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). She is pursuing a history major at Saint Xavier University. To qualify for the honor, individuals must be at least at sophomore academic status and carry at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
