Kansas City, Mo. – With its 2013 season set to kick off in early March in Clermont, Fla., the Saint Xavier University softball team learned that it will take the No. 25 national ranking into its spring campaign when the NAIA national office released the 2013 NAIA Softball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll late Tuesday. The Cougars finished the 2012 season with a 37-16 overall record and claimed second place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) final regular season standings with a 14-4 mark. SXU also just missed qualifying for the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championships last May falling 2-1 to No. 10 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the championship game of the 2012 CCAC Softball Tournament.
"We are very excited to be regarded as a top 25 team nationally," said Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin. "It is a great starting point for a team certainly capable of competing on a national stage. We had a great fall season and can't wait for March to get here, so we can get back on the field."
The Cougars have plenty of talent returning on the 2013 squad led by senior third baseman Kate Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and junior pitcher Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community). Nonnemacher was named the 2012 CCAC Co-Pitcher of the Year last May, while Mollohan earned second team all-conference honors as a junior.
