CHICAGO – With four scorers hitting double-digit totals, the No. 14 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season knocking off Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 90-79, Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  Senior forward Dominique Harvey (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) led the way for the Cougars with a game-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds.  SXU also got a huge outing from junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), who finished with 23 points and a team-best eight rebounds.  The Cougars were effective from both inside and outside scoring 50 points in the paint, while also draining eight three-pointers.

Sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) led the long-range attack for SXU hitting four of his seven three-point attempts in the game and finishing with 15 points.  Senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) also had a solid all-around outing for the Cougars recording 16 points, three rebounds and four assists.  The Tigers were led by senior forward Jake Boyce with a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds.  The Cougars shot a consistent 17-for-35 (49 percent) in each of the game's two halves.  SXU's defense was equally effective Saturday with eight steals helping to lead to 17 ONU turnovers.

Things started off tight with both teams exchanging leads in the opening minutes, but Saint Xavier was able to build an eight-point lead, 29-21, on a fast-break lay-up by Harvey with just over 10 minutes left in the first half.  Olivet stormed back and used a 9-0 run to take back the lead, 30-29, on a lay-up by freshman forward Matt Ryan.  However, SXU got hot in the closing minutes of the half and capped a late surge with a Krieger three-pointer to take a 47-40 advantage into the locker room at halftime.  The Cougars never trailed in the second half, but the Tigers kept it close for the first nine minutes of the period.  A three-pointer by senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) sparked an 8-0 run by SXU midway through the second half that allowed the home team to pull away for good.  A lay-up by Karp with two minutes left to play gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game, 88-73.

Saint Xavier (1-2 overall/1-1 CCAC) goes on the road for its next game against CCAC foe Roosevelt University on Wednesday, November 14.  The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
