CHICAGO – A 20-6 run by No. 13 ranked Olivet Nazarene University to open the second half proved to be the difference as No. 6 Saint Xavier University dropped its home opener, 100-88, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Sophomore guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) led SXU with 24 points on 12-of-24 shooting. ONU took advantage of 22 offensive rebounds in the game, which helped lead to 26 second-chance points. The Cougars (1-1 overall, 1-1 CCAC) struggled offensively after the break hitting just 33 percent (13-of-39) of their shot attempts from the floor in second-half action.
Sophomore guard Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) scored 17 points in the game to go along with eight rebounds. Freshman forward Caitlin McMahon (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) had an impressive outing for Saint Xavier in her first home game pulling down a game-best 12 rebounds and chipping in eight points and three assists. Junior guard Jordan Brandt (Winamac, Ind./Winamac) had a team-best seven assists for SXU as well as five points, three rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Chrissy Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) scored nine points and contributed seven rebounds. Both teams combined for 166 total shot attempts in the game with the visiting Tigers taking 42 of its 82 attempts from beyond the three-point arc.
Saint Xavier (1-1 overall, 1-1 CCAC) goes on the road for its next game against Roosevelt University on Wednesday, November 14. The conference game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
