Men's Basketball - Mon, Apr. 4, 2005
CHICAGO -- Tom O'Malley, Saint Xavier University men's basketball coach, and Bob Hallberg, SXU women's basketball coach, were both recently named NAIA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball "Co-Coach of the Year," respectively, by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) for their outstanding accomplishments over the 2004-05 season. Both coaches will be honored at the 33rd Annual Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on Saturday, April 30, on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.

Under O'Malley's direction, the SXU men's basketball team had one of its best seasons ever finishing the year with a 30-7 overall record and earning the school's first-ever Elite 8 appearance in the 2005 NAIA National Championships in Kansas City, Mo. It was the third 30-win season in Saint Xavier history, all three coming during O'Malley's tenure.

The women's team earned its third straight trip to the NAIA National Championships in Jackson, Tenn., and finished with a 21-13 overall mark. Hallberg started the program at SXU back in 2000 and the Cougars have ended each season with at least 20 wins. Saint Xavier also finished in a three-way tie for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular-season crown with a 10-2 record.
