Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior midfielder Kyle Breitenbach (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso University/Valparaiso) picked the perfect time to produce his first multi-goal game of the season. His pair of goals keyed a 4-1 victory over No. 7 seeded Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Saturday in first round action of the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament and earned him the CCAC's Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor when it was announced Tuesday morning.
Breitenbach, who is now tied with sophomore midfielder Brandon Simoes (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Olivet Nazarene University/St. Edmund Campion) for the team lead in goals (seven each), authored the first goal of Saturday's game off a cross in front of the goal in the game's 21st minute. He added an insurance tally off a header in the 75th minute to give the Cougars a 3-1 advantage.
Saint Xavier (13-5-1 overall), the defending CCAC Tournament champion, takes the tourney's No. 2 seed to the semifinal round of this year's tournament and hosts No. 3 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Wednesday, November 7. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. It will also be live streamed at www.livestream.com/sxucougars
