CHICAGO – For his impressive performance in Saturday's 23-6 win over No. 1 ranked Marian University (Ind.), Saint Xavier University senior wide receiver Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) has been named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Offensive Player of the Week when the awards were released Monday morning. Zackery hauled in four catches for 101 yards and a touchdown against the top-ranked Knights on "Senior Day" at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. His 65-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter gave SXU a 23-0 lead and put to rest any attempts for a late rally by MU.
With Zackery winning the award Monday, Saint Xavier has now secured four of the league's 11 offensive weekly honors this season. Senior quarterback Jimmy Coy (Park Ridge, Ill./Valdosta State/El Camino College/Maine South) won it twice on Sept. 10 and Oct. 22, while junior running back Nick Pesek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) captured it back on Sept. 17. Zackery currently leads the MSFA Mideast League in both receptions per game (5.8) and receiving yards per game (87.3 ypg).
Saint Xavier (8-1 overall/4-1 MSFA) wraps up its 2012 regular season slate with a non-conference game against No. 22 ranked Robert Morris University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, November 10, at Morris Field in Arlington Heights, Ill.
