CHICAGO – A pair of second-half goals spoiled "Senior Night" for the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team as they fell 2-0 to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Robert Morris University (Ill.) Wednesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars honored six seniors prior to Wednesday's game, including Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X), Tammy Contorno (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), Sam Formella (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township), Sara Cervenka (Sycamore, Ill./Northern Illinois/Sycamore), Lauren Ciszewski (Alsip, Ill./Saint Ambrose/Marist) and Casey Meehan (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East). The loss drops SXU to 6-4-0 in the conference standings, which puts them in a tie for fifth place with one game to play in the regular season.
The visiting Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the game's 65th minute when junior forward Florence Dadson scored on a free kick. Dadson gave Robert Morris some insurance just six minutes later when she found the back of the net again on a shot from five yards out. Freshman keeper Cortney Jerzy (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) started in goal for the Cougars and finished with five saves. Cervenka posted four shots (one on goal) to lead SXU's offensive attack, while Contorno had two shots, both on goal.
Saint Xavier (10-6-1 overall/6-4-0 CCAC) goes on the road for its final game of the regular season on Saturday, October 27, taking on CCAC foe No. 10 ranked Olivet Nazarene University down in Bourbonnais, Ill. The game is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
