Grand Rapids, Mich. – Behind a top-10 individual finish by senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) for the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team, the Cougars finished in seventh place out of 32 teams competing in the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday, October 20.  Shares took eighth place overall with a time of 18:27.88.  The Cougars performed very well in the race beating some nationally ranked competition including No. 20 and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Illinois Institute of Technology. 

Junior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) ran one of her best races of the season taking 26th place overall and posting a time of 18:57.95.  Sophomore Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers) and freshman Dana Martin (Chicago, Ill./Marist) finished third and fourth for SXU, which was good for 53rd and 60th place overall in the race with times of 19:24.58 and 19:30.64, respectively.  Junior Anna Galvez (Glenview, Ill./Oakton CC (Ill.)/Maine East) finished out the top five for Saint Xavier coming in 117th place overall with a time of 20:10.82.

"We performed very well against some strong NAIA competition in the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational," said SXU women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel.  "We beat No. 20 ranked IIT and we also tied Taylor University (Ind.) in team points and they are ranked No. 25 nationally.  I am really excited to see how well this team will run at the conference meet coming up in early November."

Saint Xavier takes a week off before returning to action for the CCAC Conference Meet in Channahon, Ill.  The women's race starts at 11 a.m. at Channahon Community Park.
