Des Moines, Iowa Senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) racked up 44 combined kills over four matches, but the Saint Xavier University volleyball team had trouble getting wins going 1-3 on the weekend at the Grand View University Volleyball Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.  The Cougars (23-11 overall) dropped both its Friday matches falling to Davenport University (Mich.) in three sets (21-25, 24-26 and 13-25) in the opening match and then dropping another three-set match (22-25, 20-25 and 19-25) to No. 13 Grand View University (Iowa) later that evening.  SXU came back on Saturday with a win over Evangel University (Mo.) in four sets (25-17, 27-25, 23-25 and 25-15), but went down in the finale against No. 20 Viterbo University (Wis.) in three sets (17-25, 21-25 and 16-25).

In the match against Davenport, Mullaney led the way with 11 kills, while senior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) was tough as well with six kills and seven block assists.  Senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) paced Saint Xavier with 18 assists and 11 digs in the match.  Mullaney and O'Hara were impressive again in the late match Friday against host Grand View.  Mullaney tallied 12 kills and seven digs, while O'Hara finished with 11 kills.  Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomore defensive specialist Dominique Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./UIC/Mother McAuley) had solid defensive efforts with 12 digs apiece. 

Senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and Mullaney each posted 13 kills in Saturday's win over Evangel.  Desiree Aramburu posted 43 assists and 26 digs toward the winning effort, while Bowe chipped in 19 digs.  Knudsen also finished the match with a team-best three service aces.  In the final tourney match against Viterbo, O'Hara led the offensive attack with 10 kills for the Cougars.  Desiree Aramburu finished with 29 assists and 15 digs for SXU, while Mullaney posted eight kills.

Saint Xavier (23-11 overall/12-1 CCAC) hosts "Senior and Parent Night" on Tuesday, October 23, for its final home match of the regular season slate.  The Cougars take on conference foe Roosevelt University (Ill.) starting at 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
