CHICAGO – Savannah Kinsella, a senior second baseman at Andrean High School in Merrillville, Ind., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. The Munster, Ind., native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2013 and will compete for playing time on the field during the 2014 season. Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin believes that Kinsella may see playing time at shortstop for the Cougars during her collegiate career.
Kinsella is the daughter of Robert and Susanne Kinsella of Munster. She is currently coached by Brooke Baker-Runyon at Andrean High School. Kinsella is looking to pursue a degree in education next year at Saint Xavier University. During her junior year last spring, Kinsella went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to help Andrean win the 2012 Class 3A state championship with a 9-2 victory over Edgewood High School.
"We are very excited about Savannah's signing," said Minuskin. "She played second base and was the leadoff hitter for a state championship team. Savannah has a vast skill set and will contribute to our program right away."
