Deerfield, Ill. – Senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) led the way with 13 kills and no attacking errors to lead the Saint Xavier University volleyball team to another Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory in three sets Thursday night taking down Trinity International University (Ill.) in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars took the match by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-22. Knudsen finished the match with an impressive attack percentage of .448 and also tallied nine digs and a service ace on the evening. SXU now sits at 21-5 overall and 11-1 atop the North Division of the CCAC.
Saint Xavier also got solid performances from senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South), senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) and sophomore middle blocker Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial). Mullaney just missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs, while Bowe led the team with 15 digs. Aramburu recorded 23 assists in the match to go along with two kills and six digs. Hackert was a big presence around the net for the Cougars posting a match-best four total blocks (one solo) and six kills.
Saint Xavier (21-5 overall/11-1 CCAC) heads to Bellevue, Neb., for the weekend to take part in the Bellevue Bruin Premier Volleyball Classic. The Cougars take on No. 3 ranked Columbia College (Mo.) in their first of three matches on the weekend starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 12.
