Olathe, Kan. - The Saint Xavier University softball team earned a No. 14 ranking in the 2005 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Softball Preseason Ratings released earlier this week by the league office in Olathe, Kan. Last season, the Cougars qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in Decatur, Ala. ending the year with a 36-24 overall record and a No. 18 national ranking.

"I think this ranking is well-deserved based on our performance last season," said Saint Xavier University head softball coach Myra Minuskin. "However, the most important thing for our team to realize is that we still have to prove ourselves on the playing field."

The Cougars return 17 letterwinners from the 2004 squad, including all eight positional starters. SXU also returns three pitchers from last season, but will have to deal with the loss of 2004 NAIA All-American pitcher Stacie Eschmann (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods). Two-time NAIA All-American shortstop Colleen Kilduff (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) returns for her junior season at Saint Xavier University to help lead the Cougars in 2005.
