Fulton, Mo. - Paced by an amazing first round score by junior Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley), the Saint Xavier University men's golf team currently sits in second place after day one out of the eight teams competing at the two-day William Woods University Fall Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo.  Birby shot a 65 in the first round, seven strokes below par for the course and fell just one stroke short of tying the course record.  After the opening day of action, the Cougars turned in a team score of 295, which put them in second place in the field heading into tomorrow's final day of competition.

"Kirby played at another level today and it was a great experience for him to perform so well and come so close to a course record," said SXU golf coach Mike Mandakas.  "He hit it very well off the tee and his iron play was on all day.  I can't wait to see how our guys close out the tournament tomorrow."

Saint Xavier completes the Invitational on Tuesday, October 2, with another round at Tanglewood.
