Joliet, Ill. – Providing all the offense needed for the second straight game, sophomore midfielders Luis Medina (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) and Brandon Simoes (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Olivet Nazarene/St. Edmund Campion) led the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team to a 2-0 road win over University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday night in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars (7-3-0 overall) have now won four straight and allowed just one goal over the span. Junior keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) picked up his fourth shutout of the season recording three saves in the process.
Simoes scored the game's first goal in the 26th minute of play on a shot from 19 yards out in the center of the field that found the lower left corner of the net. Assisting on the Simoes goal were sophomore midfielder Tom Lojek (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) and junior defender Dale Judickas (Hickory Hills, Ill./South Suburban CC/Stagg). SXU held the 1-0 lead through the remainder of the first half and well into the second half. In the 73rd minute, Medina added insurance to the Cougar lead when he scored on an unassisted play stealing the ball from the opposition and finding the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage. SXU finished the game with 11 total shots, including five on goal attempts. USF had nine shots with three on goal.
