Findlay, Ohio – After a stellar outing in a 36-26 victory over Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill., Saturday, Saint Xavier University junior linebacker Zach Dolph (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week when the league office released the award Monday. It was the second straight week Dolph has claimed the honor after his impressive performance in SXU's 37-7 home win over Langston University (Okla.) on Saturday, September 15. The victory over TIU kept the Cougars perfect on the year with a 4-0 overall record.
Dolph had another monster game finishing with a team-best 12 total tackles, including 10 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for losses and a half sack. He also recorded a pass break-up in the game. Dolph currently ranks among the NAIA national leaders in both tackles (tied for No. 13 with 11.0 tackles per game) and tackles for losses (tied for No. 7 averaging 2.3 per game).
Saint Xavier (4-0 overall) hosts its annual homecoming game on Saturday, September 29. The Cougars take on MSFA Mideast League rival University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at 6 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
