CHICAGO – Senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) finished with a match-best 16 kills as the Saint Xavier University volleyball team stayed atop the North Division of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) with a three-set sweep of Roosevelt University (Ill.) Thursday night at the UIC Physical Education Center in Chicago. The Cougars racked up 40 kills as a team winning the sets by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21 to stay perfect in conference play at 4-0 and move their overall mark to 11-2. The Lakers fall to 8-7 on the year and 1-3 in CCAC play with Thursday's loss.
Senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) also had a big match for SXU totaling 11 kills behind a .526 attack percentage (11 kills, one error). Saint Xavier hit .407 as a unit with 14 kills in the opening set to take control of the match early on and then rallied in the third set behind 15 kills and an .324 attack percentage. The Cougars posted double-digit kills in every set. Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the SXU defensive effort with a match-high 16 digs, while senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) had 20 assists, four service aces and five digs on the evening.
Saint Xavier (11-2 overall/4-0 CCAC) takes this weekend off and returns to its home court with a CCAC match against Judson University (Ill.) on Tuesday, September 25. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. that night at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
