CHICAGO – Behind a match-best 12 kills by senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team kept its perfect Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) mark intact with a road victory over Robert Morris University (Ill.) at Attack Athletics in Chicago. The Cougars came out extremely strong in the first set winning by a score of 25-8 and then stayed tough in the final two sets winning 25-23 and 25-15. With the victory, SXU improves to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while RMU drops to 3-13 overall and 2-2 in the CCAC.
Freshman right side Meghan Falsey (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) also had a nice night for the Cougars with eight kills and six digs; while senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) was tough as well with 34 assists, three service aces and seven digs. Senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) contributed seven kills and 11 digs toward the winning effort. Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the SXU defense with 14 digs. The Cougars opened the match with an impressive attack percentage of .600 (13 kills, one error) in the first set.
Saint Xavier (10-2 overall/3-0 CCAC) plays another conference road match on Thursday, September 20, heading downtown to take on Roosevelt University (Ill.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
