Leesburg, Va. – Saint Xavier University junior linebacker Zach Dolph (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and senior defensive back Jeremy Rhodes (Alsip, Ill./Drake University/Brother Rice) were both named Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Defensive Athletes of the Week when the honors were released by the league office Monday in Leesburg, Virginia. Both players had huge individual performances in the No. 1 ranked Cougars' 37-7 victory over Langston University (Okla.) on Saturday, September 15, at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
Dolph had a tremendous game defensively with a game-best 14 total tackles (eight solos), five tackles for losses, three sacks, a pass break-up and a forced fumble. Also contributing to the stifling SXU defense was Rhodes, who finished with seven tackles (three solos) and two interceptions. The Cougars forced four turnovers in their win over Langston, including two interceptions and two fumbles. With Saturday's victory, SXU extended its current home win streak to 24 games dating back to the home opener of the 2009 season.
Saint Xavier (3-0 overall) travels to Trinity International University (Ill.) on Saturday, September 22, for a Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) crossover match-up. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kick-off in Deerfield, Ill.
