Findlay, Ohio – Following its impressive 37-7 victory over Langston University (Okla.) over the weekend, the No. 1 ranked Saint Xavier University football team got some more good news Monday when three of its players won all three of the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Player of the Week awards. Junior running back Nick Pesek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor, junior linebacker Zach Dolph (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was named the Defensive Player of the Week and junior Spencer Nolen (Columbia, Tenn./UT-Chattanooga/Columbia Central) claimed the Special Teams Player of the Week accolade.
Pesek had a huge night in SXU's big home win Saturday setting the tone for the night when he broke free for an 85-yard touchdown run on Saint Xavier's second play from scrimmage, the longest run play in school history. Pesek added to his scoring total in the third quarter when he hauled in a pass and took it 45 yards for another touchdown to help the Cougars pull away for good.
Dolph was incredible defensively finishing with a game-best 14 total tackles, including eight solo stops, five tackles for losses and three sacks. He also tallied a forced fumble and a pass break-up on the night. Dolph led a Cougar defense that forced four turnovers against Langston with two interceptions and two fumbles.
Nolen finished Saint Xavier's 37-7 victory over Langston (Okla.) with a 36-yard field goal and was a perfect 4-for-4 on his PAT attempts. Nolen's only miss came on a 27-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter.
Saint Xavier (3-0 overall) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Saturday, September 22, for a MSFA crossover match-up against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
