Normal, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team traveled to Normal, Ill., this past Friday to race in the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Illinois State University. The Cougars finished seventh out of 29 teams competing in the meet. Leading SXU was junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice). Corcoran finished in 28th place out of 270 runners in the 8K race (8,000 meters) with a time of 25:25.
Next for Saint Xavier was freshman Eric Hancock (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) in 67th place with a time of 26:24. Junior Chris Shellenberger (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) finished third for the Cougars and 78th overall at 26:38. Junior Shane Kenney (Porter, Ind./Chesterton) and junior Chris Sarna (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) finished out the top-five for the Cougars. They placed 87th and 101st overall, respectively, with times of 26:48 and 27:02.
The Cougars take two weeks off before returning to competition. SXU heads downtown on Saturday, September 29, for the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite hosted by Loyola University at Montrose Beach. The men's race is scheduled for a 12:15 p.m. start.
