Davenport, Iowa – Despite a solid all-around effort by senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team had its eight-match win streak snapped Wednesday night in a loss to Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) at Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa. The Cougars fall to 9-2 overall this season with the loss, while the Fighting Bees stay perfect on the year with a 9-0 mark. SXU dropped the match in three sets falling 19-25, 24-26 and 18-25. Aramburu finished the match with 23 assists, three kills and nine digs.
Senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) led the Cougars offensively with 10 kills and also contributed seven digs. Freshman right side Meghan Falsey (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) posted nine kills for Saint Xavier, while senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) had seven kills and eight digs. Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) added eight digs and three assists for SXU. SAU was sharp offensively totaling 46 kills to just 10 attacking errors for an impressive attack percentage of .336 on the night.
Saint Xavier (9-2 overall/2-0 CCAC) takes another weekend off and returns to action with a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match against Robert Morris University (Ill.). The road match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, at 7 p.m. in Chicago.
