CHICAGO – Senior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) finished with eight kills, two service aces and a block assist to help lead the Saint Xavier University volleyball team to a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) win over Trinity International University (Ill.) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars took the match in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-22. With Tuesday's victory, SXU moves to 9-1 overall this year, the best start for the program in the 26 years that current head coach Robert Heersema has directed the squad.
Senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) led the offensive attack for Saint Xavier Tuesday posting nine kills on the night. Freshman right side Meghan Falsey (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) also played well for the Cougars totaling eight kills, while senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) recorded eight kills as well to go along with her nine digs and two aces. Senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) had a team-best 24 assists along with two aces and seven digs. Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the defensive effort for SXU with 11 digs.
Saint Xavier (9-1 overall/2-0 CCAC) looks to continue its winning ways when the team heads to Davenport, Iowa, on Wednesday, September 12, for a non-conference match against Saint Ambrose University (Iowa). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
