Bourbonnais, Ill. – Led by a second-place individual finish from senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg), the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team completed a third-place team finish at the Midwest Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University Friday at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill.  The Cougars went up against some tough Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition including host Olivet Nazarene University, ranked No. 3 in the 2012 NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, as well as Trinity Christian College, ranked No. 19.  ONU won the meet with 23 points, while Taylor University (Ind.) took second place with 80 team points.  SXU was next with 99 with Trinity Christian coming in fourth with 103.  Shares finished the race with personal-best time of 18:41.78 over the 5K (5,000 meters) course.

Sophomore Elise Prieto (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) was the next person to cross the finish line for the Cougars with a time of 19:27.22, good for a 13th place finish.  Prieto was followed up by freshman Dana Martin (Chicago, Ill./Marist), who finished in 28th place with a time of 19:46.42.  Junior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) and sophomore Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC) completed the top-five finishers for Saint Xavier.  They finished in 32nd and 34th place, respectively with times of 19:51.24 and 19:57.76. 

"This team has a lot of potential going forward," said SXU women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel.  "We ran well at the Midwest Classic and will look to carry that success into the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships coming up.  We will continue to work on improving this team and focus on the important meets towards the end of the season." 

Saint Xavier competes again on Friday, September 14, at Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill., for the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships. The women's race is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
