CHICAGO – Behind a hat trick by sophomore midfielder Morgan Graves (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Graves scored two of her three goals on the day in first-half action and then added her final score on a penalty kick attempt in the 88th minute. Freshman keeper Cortney Jerzy (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) also had a solid afternoon for the Cougars posting her second career shutout with four saves.
Graves kicked off the game's scoring in the 13th minute of play when she broke free from her defender and scored on an unassisted shot from 10 yards out. Just over 12 minutes later, Graves found the left side of the net open for her second goal of the day off an assist by sophomore midfielder Monica Chavolla (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom). Graves capped the scoring with less than two minutes to play when she was tackled in the box by a Lawrence Tech defender. Her resulting penalty kick found the left side of the net again to complete the hat trick. The Cougars took 20 shots in the game compared to just six by the Blue Devils.
