Milwaukee, Wis. – Sophomore middle hitter Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) finished with five kills and four total blocks (one solo) in helping the Saint Xavier University volleyball team win its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) debut over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) at the CSU Field House in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars won the match in three sets by scores of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-19 to improve to 8-1 overall this season. With the victory, SXU ties its best start to a season since current head coach Robert Heersema started coaching the program back in 1988.
Senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) led the offensive attack with nine kills, while senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and senior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) each posted eight kills on the night. Senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) had a nice all-around match as well posting 32 assists and 10 digs. Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) also recorded 10 digs toward the winning effort. The Cougars really looked sharp offensively in the match's second set racking up an attack percentage of .367 (14 kills, three attack errors).
Saint Xavier (8-1 overall/1-0 CCAC) takes the weekend off and returns to action with another conference match at home against Trinity International University (Ill.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
