Joliet, Ill. - Keying a perfect 5-0 week with her 60 kills, 35 digs and .310 attack percentage, Saint Xavier University senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Tuesday for the seven-day period ending September 2. SXU swept the field at its combined tournament with Trinity Christian College going 4-0 over the weekend and lost only one of 16 sets during the week to extend its overall winning streak to six matches. The Cougars are currently 7-1 overall this season.
Knudsen authored no less than nine kills in each of SXU's five matches en route to a 3.75 kills per game average over 16 games. Defensively, she averaged 2.19 digs per contest. Her other numbers for the week included five service aces, four of which came in a four-game victory over Siena Heights University (Mich.) Saturday, where she also delivered 18 kills and 12 digs. Knudsen also totaled eight blocks on the week with seven being of the assist variety.
Saint Xavier (7-1 overall) continues its season on Thursday, September 6, with a road match against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Milwaukee.
