Leesburg, Va. – Saint Xavier University senior wide receiver Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and senior quarterback Jimmy Coy (Park Ridge, Ill./Valdosta State/El Camino College/Maine South) were both named NAIA Football Athletes of the Week late Monday by Beyond Sports Network (BSN) based out of Leesburg, Va. Zackery was one of just two NAIA receivers in the nation to receive the honor, while Coy shared the distinction with just one other quarterback nationwide as well. Both players had huge individual efforts Saturday evening in SXU's 41-12 victory over Olivet Nazarene University in its season opener in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Zackery finished the game with team-bests of 14 receptions for 237 yards and a pair of first-quarter touchdowns. His 237 yards fell just six yards shy of tying the program's single game record for receiving yards set by Ed Bryant with 243 yards against McKendree College (Ill.) on October 24, 1998. Zackery's two scores in the first quarter Saturday gave Saint Xavier an early 14-3 lead. Coy racked up an impressive 426 yards through the air completing 35 of his 53 pass attempts on the night. He also threw five touchdown passes and rushed eight times for 47 yards for the Cougars. The BSN staff hands out awards for Offensive Line of the Week, Defense of the Week, Offensive Players of the Week, Defensive Players of the Week, and Special Teams Players of the Week. Beyond Sports Network is a sports media site that features colleges and players from the FCS, DII, DIII, and NAIA levels.

Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) faces a tough match-up for its home opener on Saturday, September 8, taking on former Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The Fighting Saints are currently ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA Football Top 25 Poll. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
