CHICAGO – Freshman forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph) provided a goal and an assist to lead the No. 25 ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Aquinas College (Mich.) in non-conference NAIA action Wednesday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.  The Cougars (2-0-0 overall) trailed 1-0 at the half after the Saints scored the game's first goal just two minutes into regulation.  However, SXU rallied in the second half tying the game with a goal in the 55th minute and then scoring the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute.

Just under two minutes into play, Aquinas took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore defender Justin Reamon took advantage of a hole in the defense and found the back of the net off an assist by senior forward Casey Higgason.  The Saints held the lead throughout the remainder of the first half and nearly 10 minutes into the second half before the Cougars tied things up.  Sophomore midfielder Luis Medina (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) played hero again for SXU just days after scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 upset win over No. 4 University of Rio Grande (Ohio).  Medina took a nice assist from Gutierrez right in front of the goal and was able to angle it in for the game-tying score.

In the 78th minute, Gutierrez used a header to record the game-winning goal.  The scoring play was set up off a cross by senior midfielder Luke Zeiler (Homer Glen, Ill./Nova Southeastern/St. Francis/Lockport).  With junior keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) sitting out due to injury, sophomore keeper AJ Pfatschbacher (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) got the start in goal for the Cougars.  He finished the night with two saves.  The Saints held the advantage in total shots Wednesday taking 13 to SXU's seven.

Saint Xavier (2-0-0 overall) goes on the road for its next game taking on No. 1 ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) in Columbia, Ky.  The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, at 6 p.m. central time.
