Goshen, Ind. – Senior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) finished with match-bests of 41 assists, 17 digs and two service aces to help lead the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team over Goshen College (Ind.) Wednesday night at Gunden Gymnasium in Goshen, Ind. The Cougars (3-1 overall) won the match in three sets by scores of 25-18, 27-25 and 25-22. Leading the offensive attack for SXU Wednesday was senior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) with 11 kills to go along with her 14 digs on the night.
The Cougars also got solid production from senior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and sophomore middle hitter Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial). Knudsen and Hackert each finished the match with 10 kills. Senior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Knudsen also each posted 11 digs. Goshen falls to 4-5 overall this season with the loss.
Saint Xavier (3-1 overall) continues its season on Friday, August 31, co-hosting the SXU/Trinity Christian College Tournament at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars play two matches on Friday starting with a 4 p.m. match against Mount Mercy College (Iowa) to open tourney play followed by an 8 p.m. match against Spring Arbor University (Mich.).
