CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University softball program recently hired Erin Mollohan as a part-time assistant coach for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Mollohan, a native of Tinley Park, Ill., was a four-year starter at Drake University (Iowa) from 2008-2011 and served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulldogs this past spring. Her sister, Kate, enters her senior season with the Cougars next year and has been a three-year starter at third base. SXU head softball coach Myra Minuskin is excited about the addition of Mollohan and what it will mean to the program.
"Erin is currently playing professionally in the Netherlands, but we can't wait for her to join us in October," said Minuskin. "With her impressive playing career at Drake and overseas, she will be a valuable addition to our coaching staff. She will work primarily with the catchers as well as assist with our hitters."
As a senior at Drake in 2011, Mollohan played in all 55 games for the Bulldogs and led the team with 10 home runs. She also earned CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District VII First Team recognition and the 2010-11 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award following her senior year. She played prep softball locally at Andrew High School in Tinley Park and helped lead the team to four consecutive regional titles.
Saint Xavier finished up its 2012 campaign earlier this month with a 37-16 overall record and a No. 24 ranking in the final NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Cougars finished second in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season standings with a 14-4 mark as well as second place in the CCAC Tournament behind only No. 9 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
