Bourbonnais, Ill. - Led by three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI by freshman right fielder Tony Testin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), the Saint Xavier University baseball team ended its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule on a good note with a 5-3 road win over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Monday in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars (27-16 overall/18-2 CCAC) also got a solid pitching performance out of sophomore right-hander Dan Miller (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), who threw the first seven innings and allowed eight hits, three runs (two earned), and no walks with one strikeout.

SXU got on the scoreboard quickly taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI double by senior designated hitter Ryan Buchler (Schererville, Ind./South Suburban CC). A big second inning by the Cougars plated four more runs and gave Saint Xavier a 5-0 lead highlighted by a two-RBI single by Testin. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the third inning with three runs behind a big two-RBI single. However, pitching prevailed for both teams over the final six innings and the Cougars were able to hold on for the 5-3 victory. Miller got the win for SXU and improves to 4-2 on the year, while junior Shane Longest (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) got the save (2) notching two outs on the only batters he faced. Freshman leftie Jayson Koehn (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) also threw 1.1 innings of relief giving up just one hit, no runs, and no walks with one strikeout.

Saint Xavier (27-16 overall/18-2 CCAC) takes Tuesday off before returning to action on Wednesday, May 2, for a non-conference doubleheader against St. Ambrose University (Iowa) at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. Start time for the first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
