Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior quarterback John Perryman (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) and junior punter Sean Collins (Niles, Ill./Notre Dame) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, when the honors were released by the conference office Monday. Both players were instrumental in the No. 6 ranked Cougars' 35-16 road win over William Penn University (Iowa) Saturday in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Perryman completed 24 of his 36 pass attempts for 298 yards, three touchdowns (one rushing) and one interception. Both his touchdown passes came in the first half of Saturday's win to help the Cougars build a 16-9 halftime advantage. Perryman also finished the game with six carries for 13 yards and a fourth-quarter score on the ground.
Collins had just four punts for 180 yards in Saturday's victory, but made the most of each one pinning William Penn inside their own 20-yard line on three of his four attempts. Twice in the third quarter, Collins put punts at the WPU one-yard line, including one, which eventually led to a safety for Saint Xavier.
SXU (4-1 overall/1-0 MSFA) will host a huge MSFA Midwest League showdown on Saturday, October 8, when No. 5 ranked McKendree College (Ill.) comes to Chicago. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at SXU Stadium.
