Lisle, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's track team was active on Saturday, April 14, running at the Eagle Invitational at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. While the meet was basically considered a means of preparing for the upcoming Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships meet on Saturday, April 21, it was not without highlights. The Cougars had freshman John Stancato (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), who lowered his season-best time in the 100-meter dash to 11.29. In addition, the 800-meter trio of sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), sophomore Shane Kenney (Porter, Ind./Chesterton) and senior Brandon Hummer (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) clocked season-best marks of 1:56.63, 1:56.94 and 1:57.00, respectively.
Freshman Kyle Counter (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) finished sixth overall in the 5000-meter run in a season's best time of 15:48.99, while sophomore Chris Sarna (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg) notched 16:08 in the same event. Finally, the 4x100 meter relay team consisting of freshman Matt Krakowski (Alsip, Ill./Marist), sophomore Nick Pesek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community), sophomore Tyler Hoeg (Channahon, Ill./Concordia University/Minooka) and Stancato clocked in a solid time of 44.06.
"I consider this meet as a tune-up for the conference meet," said SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "We were not primed, but I was satisfied with our performances. Our 800 (meter) men ran well and are improving each week. I was very impressed with Counter's race and Stancato is becoming an impressive sprinter. We will be ready for conference."
The Cougars head to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday, April 21, for the third annual CCAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
