CHICAGO –Just over three months after bringing the NAIA National Championship trophy back to Chicago, the Saint Xavier University football team gets back to business this week with the start of spring practice sessions.  The Cougars will get four weeks of spring practices in before holding its annual Scarlet-Gray Spring Scrimmage on Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.  The scrimmage is free and open to the public.  SXU also recently posted its 2012 football schedule online and there are plenty of home dates that Cougar fans should be circling on their calendars.  These include a 6 p.m. home opener on Saturday, September 8, against Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) crossover rival University of St. Francis (Ill.); a tough "Homecoming Game" battle against MSFA Mideast League rival University of Saint Francis (Ind.) and a rematch of last season's epic NAIA Championship Series semifinals game against MSFA Mideast League foe and No. 3 ranked Marian University (Ind.).

"It's hard to believe we are starting up again," said Saint Xavier University football coach Mike Feminis. "This offseason has just flown by and I still feel like we are trying to catch our breath from all of the incredible post-championship gatherings and events that took place to celebrate the national championship.  Our guys have had a great winter strength and conditioning season though and they are chomping at the bit to get the pads back on and play some football.

"Although we couldn't find an 11thopponent, I'm really excited about our 2012 schedule, particularly the home games," continued Feminis.  "We play our three biggest rivals (St. Francis, Saint Francis and Marian), plus a very talented Langston University (Okla.) team (Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.) all at home, so our fans should be really excited for next year."

The Saint Xavier University football coaching staff will also be hosting a coaching clinic for area high school coaches on Friday, April 27.  The clinic will cover offense, defense and special teams topics and be broken up into two, 75-minute sessions with the first starting at 6 p.m.  Cost for the clinic is $20 per coach.
