Kansas City, Mo. – Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) earned second team recognition on the 2011-12 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball All-America Team when the NAIA national office released the honors Wednesday afternoon.  Karp becomes the first SXU player to earn a second team spot on the NAIA's Division I Men's Basketball All-America Team since the 2005-06 season when former standout Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) claimed it for the second straight year to cap his impressive career with the Cougars.  The selections are made by the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee and comprises a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team.  There are 10 members on each of the first three All-America teams.

Karp had another stellar season for the Cougars leading the team in scoring (23.6 points per game), rebounding (8.5 rpg) and blocks (1.1 bpg).  He also shot 60 percent (289-for-485) from the field on the year.  Karp finished fifth nationwide in the NAIA in scoring average and No. 25 overall in rebounding.  He also ranked No. 11 nationally in field goal percentage.  In the conference, Karp was second in the league in scoring, rebounds and blocks per game and also held the best field goal percentage in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).

"I don't know if there is a player more deserving of this honor than Brad Karp," said SXU men's basketball coach Tom O'Malley.  "He has worked extremely hard to put himself in this position and I could not be happier for him.  The most amazing thing about Brad is that he never stops trying to improve his game and I will not be surprised if is even better next season."

Saint Xavier finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 23-9 overall record and tied for second place with Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the CCAC regular season standings with a 7-3 mark.  The Cougars ended the year with a tough 76-71 road loss to Olivet Nazarene in the semifinals of the CCAC Division I Men's Basketball Tournament on March 1.
