CHICAGO – Sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) racked up a match-best 18 kills and an attack percentage of .519 as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team won big over visiting Rust College (Miss.) in non-conference play Monday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (7-14 overall) took the match in just three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-14. SXU finished the match with 12 service aces led by five from sophomore middle blocker Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and four by junior outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South).
Freshman libero Adam Sieger (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) led the Cougars defensively with 11 digs, while freshman setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) propelled the offensive attack with 15 assists. Junior outside hitter Matt Yerkes (Palos Heights, Ill./Marist), sophomore middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) and freshman middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) each posted three block assists for SXU in Monday's victory.
Saint Xavier (7-14 overall/4-8 MAMVIC) hosts Limestone College (S.C.) in non-conference action on Thursday, March 15. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center.
