Kansas City, Mo. - Head coach Bob Hallberg and the No. 14 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team has received one of the four No. 4 seeds in next week's 2012 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championships in Frankfort, Ky., when the seeds and pairings for the event were officially released by the NAIA national officeWednesday evening. The 32-team, single-elimination tournament is divided into four, eight-team brackets with teams seeded one through eight based off the final NAIA Ratings Poll released earlier this afternoon. The Cougars will match up against No. 5 seed Campbellsville University (Ky.) in first-round action on Thursday, March 15, with a scheduled 9 a.m. (eastern) tip-off at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky.
Campbellsville University comes into the national tournament out of the Mid-South Conference (MSC) with a 20-12 overall record. The Tigers received an at-large bid for this year's NAIA National Championships after losing in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament to No. 6 ranked University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), 77-64. Campbellsville finished fourth in the Mid-South Conference this season with a 9-7 mark.
Saint Xavier has had an impressive season thus far posting a 23-8 overall record and winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament title for the fourth straight year. This marks the 10th straight season that SXU has advanced to the NAIA National Championships, which begins on Wednesday, March 14. The Cougars have advanced to the "Sweet 16" in four of the past six seasons.
