Geneva, Ohio - The Saint Xavier University men's indoor track team brought two of their finest relays to the 2012 NAIA National Championships in Geneva, Ohio, to compete over the weekend. The 4x800 meter relay team consisting of sophomore Shane Kenney (Porter, Ind./Chesterton), senior Daniel Hasty (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice), senior Brandon Hummer (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) and sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) finished in 15th place nationally with a school record time of 7:50.76. Doubling back in just two hours, the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team consisting of Corcoran, freshman John Stancato (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), Kenney and senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished 16th nationally in a time of 10:26.77. While both teams narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, these were "high-water" marks for the team.
"I am very satisfied with the performances of all of these athletes," responded SXU men's track and field coach Ed McAllister. "Every one of these fine, young men ran their top times at this meet and that's all that you can ask of them. We are primarily very young and I feel that there will be more regular and greater successes in their futures."
The Cougars are off for almost the entire month of March and open their outdoor season at the University of Chicago on Saturday, March 31.
