Joliet, Ill. - Senior guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) highlighted three Saint Xavier University players on the 2011-12 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Women's Basketball Team by winning the league's Player of the Year award when the honors were announced in conjunction with Saturday afternoon's CCAC Tournament championship game at the Shannon Center in Chicago. In addition to Young, freshmen guard/forwards Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) and Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) also earned first-team recognition on this year's all-conference squad for the Cougars. In fact, Stuut was awarded the 2011-12 CCAC Freshman of the Year honor. It is the fourth straight year that SXU has secured the conference's Player of the Year award after Alex Barone won in 2011 and Erin Hannemann claimed the recognition in 2009 and 2010.
Young led the conference in both scoring (17.3 points per game) and steals (3.9 steals per game) and had the CCAC's best three-point field goal percentage at .405. It is the second straight year she has earned first team all-conference recognition. Stuut had a stellar debut season with the Cougars averaging14.8 points (fourth in the CCAC) and 9.2 rebounds (second in the CCAC) per game. She set the single season rebounding record at Saint Xavier with 289 rebounds surpassing Hannemann and Rachel Merkell's old mark of 284. Broski also had an impressive freshman year with SXU posting a scoring average of 12.4 points and one of the league's best field goal percentages at .545 (third best in the CCAC).
Saint Xavier also had four players named to the 2011-12 CCAC All-Academic Team this season. Young was joined by senior forward Brittany Jones (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), senior guard Michelle Tourtillott (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and junior guard Maureen Riley (Alma, Mich./Sacred Heart Academy) on the squad. To qualify, a player must be at least a sophomore academic status and have maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average or above.
